How to Prepare for Your Maternity Session | Miami Maternity Photographer

You’re pregnant (or someone you love is)! Congratulations! Be it your first or your fifth, this is a super exciting time in your life. It doesn’t matter if you’re having a difficult pregnancy and feel terrible all the time or it’s easy breezy and you feel fantastic - it deserves to be documented!

In the grand scheme of our children’s life, pregnancy is a short blip on the radar and while we may never forget what it feels like to have another human being kick us from the inside, we might forget how beautiful we were. How much our skin glowed or how we settled into our bodies for the first time in our life. Or how beautiful our stretched to the max skin looked as our child moved their hand across the inside of our belly.

Pregnancy is different for everyone and not having a memory of our unique experience is a disservice to ourselves! Now, I’ll get off my soapbox and give you some tips for preparing for your Maternity Session!

Maternity sessions are typically scheduled between 27 and 36 weeks and can take place in your home, at a secret garden where blooms grow as well as the life inside you, or in my studio. Your session will last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.

Once you book your session, the next step is to decide on your location. I can’t really pick a favorite, but I will say that I love a studio session because I have wardrobe options available and it’s a convenient option for bringing in a make-up artist. I often package beauty services with a maternity session because I believe Mamas deserve to be pampered at every stage! Your natural beauty will absolutely shine regardless, but you’ve been working hard, mama. Treat yourself!

The third step in the process is deciding on a wardrobe! As I mentioned, I do have some options available in the studio, but I am also happy to guide you during the process to select items that make you feel your best. Two to three options are usually ideal and will give us some variety in the imagery and for posing.

Lastly, decide if you will involve your partner during the session. Some mamas want to have a solo session, while others prefer to include their partner. It’s up to you! We can also do a hybrid option that will include a mix of both.

As I said earlier, the ideal booking time is between 27-36 weeks. You can also choose a little earlier or later, but the sweet spot is definitely 7.5-8.5 months to get those beautiful round belly shots.

We’ll spend about 45 minutes to an hour shooting and then you can expect a turn-around time of a few weeks (usually less than 3) to get your images back.

Then it will be time for babe’s arrival and newborn images.

Won’t it be amazing to look back and see the difference?
