Getting The Most Out of Your Photography Session

Photos are pieces of your history. I’m helping you tell a story with every click of my shutter. Every day  you are living in is a stepping stone of your life. Today, tomorrow, next week- the building blocks of your legacy. You can’t put a price on having a tangible memento of the everyday joyful moments to the big events.   However, you CAN be prepared to make the most of your investment. Today I’m sharing my top tips for getting the most of your photography session.

Be on time

I know, I know. This can seem pretty common sense, but when you’re late, it cuts into our session time, which means we all feel rushed and you may get fewer images. Although I’m great at making the best of a situation (yes, I’m bragging on myself), I want us all to be comfortable and at ease with the process.

When you’re on time, we’re able to get into a flow and take the time we need for outfit changes, meltdowns (yes they happen, no you’re not the only one, it’ll be ok!) , breaks, etc.  You’re also able to savor the moment when you aren’t feeling rushed or pressured to just get things done. Being on time leads to a better final result, period!

Plan ahead

This is two-fold,  as booking ahead and planning for your session date are both important.

As a rule of thumb,  I like to schedule maternity sessions two months in advance of due date (so around 30-36weeks pregnant) , newborns 2-4 weeks from the due date and family sessions at least 3 weeks in advance (gotta have time to shop and coordinate outfits!).

Once the booking is in place and we’ve determined the location,  there are a few things you can do to plan ahead for a successful session.

  • Ensure that you have reliable transportation to and from your session.  If you’re taking public transportation, it’s always good to buffer in a little extra time. Same for traffic, especially if you have a morning or late afternoon session.

  • Bring snacks + refreshments for yourself and/or your family.  Hangry doesn’t look good on anyone!

  • Last, but certainly not least, have a change (or two) of clothing. I love helping my clients pick their items, so if you’re stuck, I’m here to help! Or better yet take advantage of my motherhood wardrobe which is included in your collection pricing ;)

Be Open-Minded

We all want a Pinterest Perfect session. Which is why we spend hours pulling the perfect ideas to pin onto the picture-perfect board. I get it, it’s my mission to give you pin-worthy content. However, when you’re really rigid with your shot list or poses, we can’t capture the natural moments. The things that make you uniquely you. The things that only happen in your family or with your loved ones.

Go into your session with the willingness to try your photographer’s suggestions. To not get “every” shot on your list. Because sometimes the unexpected moments make the best images (and memories)!

Read and Apply suggestions of your photographer - they are the expert
