Favorite Photography Locations in New York

As much as I love suburban life, there will always be a part of me that loves the moments I spend in the city a little more. I love hearing all of the sounds of New York City; I love the bustling moments happening around me on any street at any given moment.

So, for my fellow city lovers, a think a quick list of favorites in New York City is in order!

Central Park

I love walking through Central Park and sneaking peeks at the juxtaposition of the grass and trees in front of me surrounded by the towering skyscrapers just beyond. There are countless locations to visit to capture engagement and family sessions in Central Park, and there isn’t one spot I love more than the others! Central Park is a gem, and it’s one of my favorite green spaces in a city with more energy than anywhere else.

There are so many amazing spots within Central Park that I adore! Including the Big Rock overlooking the Central Park South & Essex house (don’t you love how technical I am with this description- ha!), Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, The Bow Bridge, Waterfalls at 100 CPW, Central Park Conservancy, Belvedere Castle, The boathouse, The Pond at 100th St CPW, Gapstow Bridge and of course, the Views of the iconic Dakota.

As you can see below, I’ve been fortunate enough to capture several sessions in these picturesque spots - it was tough narrowing down favorites!

The Cloisters

Have you ever experienced The Metropolitan Museum of Art? It’s awe-inspiring, so it’s not a surprise that one of the sister museums of the institution’s main locations is equally as magnificent. Tucked away in Fort Tyron Park in Washington Heights in Manhattan is The MET Cloisters. Inside, this museum focuses on European art, but it’s the exterior that draws me to photograph engagement sessions and families here the most. The building itself is towering, but it also looks like a European chateau, plus there are gardens, porches, and pergolas tucked away throughout. Even on a busy day, The MET Cloisters still make anyone who visits feel as though they are worlds away from the busyness of the city just beyond.

The Highline

The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail created on the west side of Manhattan in New York City. I love this location because it has so many fantastic backdrops in a relatively small area. We can get a great mix of city and nature pictures.

The Manhattan Bridge from DUMBO

cobblestone streets and converted Brooklyn warehouse buildings are the backdrop for independent boutiques, high-end restaurants and trendy cafes. Near the waterfront, St. Ann's Warehouse, in a former tobacco factory, is the heart of a thriving performance and gallery scene. The north end of Brooklyn Bridge Park features historic Jane’s Carousel as well as picturesque views of the Manhattan skyline.

Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise

This beautiful piece of architecture and ingenuity connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn over the East River. Catching the sunrise will send shivers down your spine!

Grand Central Station

This stunning tourist destination isn’t just pretty!

“Opened to the public on February 2, 1913, Grand Central is a world-famous landmark and transportation hub in Midtown Manhattan. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering, but also of survival and rebirth…

One of Grand Central’s main attractions, the four-faced opal clock, sits in the center of the Main Concourse above the Information Booth and is often the meeting place for visitors and locals alike. You know you’re a New Yorker when you’ve told a friend to “meet me at the clock”!

With 750,000 visitors every day, Grand Central Terminal is one of the most-visited destinations in New York City, second only to Times Square.” - from the Grand Central Station’s Website

Although it’s a bustling location that may seem a little hectic for photos, there is something incredibly charming and quintessentially "New York” about Grand Central Station!

Madison Square Park

A great alternative to Central Park, the city block sized Madison Square Park has a great view of the Flatiron building and plenty of pretty landscaping too! The dog run makes it a great location for families with fur-babies and the sculptures + fountain give it great character.

Your Home

The home you share together is the center of your lives. It’s the place where you feel the most at ease, comfortable, and confident. It’s also likely the spot where many of your favorite memories are made from being reminded of what it felt like to walk through the door for the first time to the holidays and everyday moments that you share inside your walls in between. For these reasons (and so many more!), I love capturing couples and families at home in their kitchens, family rooms, backyards, and more. Your home is where you live, and capturing you simply living is when you are the most yourself and the most alive simultaneously.
