How I Curate My Client Wardrobe

Today, I'm sharing the intricacies of curating a client wardrobe – an essential element in creating stunning and timeless portraits. As part of my full service experience, I give clients access to my client wardrobe which is filled with pieces that I have meticulously curated over the years that photograph well and look beautiful on all body types. I want to share a behind the scenes look of how I curate my pieces to elevate the visual storytelling experience for my clients.

Texture and Color Harmony

When it comes to curating a client wardrobe, I always keep an eye out for textures and harmonious colors. For textures, I like to have pieces in various fabric types and also include pieces that have details like ruffles or smocking to add visual interest. When it comes to colors, neutrals and pastels dominate my selection. These colors create a timeless and elegant palette that compliments a variety of settings and occasions as well as my photography style. These colors also allow the focus to remain on the individuals and their connections as they are not too distracting.

Flowy and Feminine Styles

For my client wardrobe, I gravitate towards flowy styles that not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the images but also offer comfort to my clients. I also like pieces that are made for the female form and pay attention to details such as necklines and sleeve coverage. This ensures a flattering and versatile wardrobe that caters to a diverse range of preferences and body types.

Versatility for All Stages

Versatility is key in my client wardrobe curation. I look for pieces that seamlessly transition between various stages of life – from maternity to motherhood. A dress that exquisitely accommodates a baby bump should be just as suitable for a new mom or a family session. I aim for styles that stand the test of time and are universally flattering.

Customization for Unique Requests

Understanding that every client is unique, some may request custom pieces during our wardrobe consultation. In such cases, I go the extra mile to source clothing that aligns with their specific vision, ensuring a personalized and bespoke touch to their photography experience.

Consideration for Location and Session Vibe

When curating pieces for my client wardrobe, I always keep the session location in mind. For example, shopping for client pieces in Florida is a lot different than it was in New Jersey. The vibe of the session also plays a crucial role – a beach photoshoot requires different attire than an urban or field setting. Each piece is carefully chosen to resonate with the energy of the surroundings and the clients' desired atmosphere.

Seeings the Pieces in Person

To truly understand the potential of each item, I often try pieces on myself during the shopping process. This allows me to envision how the garment complements different body types and shapes. I consider factors like bust size, if it would be suitable for a nursing mom, and whether a bra could be worn with the item.

Curating a Client Wardrobe for Each Unique Session

Curating a client wardrobe is a labor of love that requires time and attention to detail. I strive to ensure that each piece accommodates various body types and stages of pregnancy and motherhood. The goal is to create a collection that celebrates the beauty of every individual, providing a seamless and empowering experience throughout their photography journey.

In the end, the client wardrobe is not just an ensemble of clothes; it's a carefully crafted collection that enhances the visual narrative, allowing my clients to shine in every frame. If you’re looking for more photography education, check out these blog posts!
