Hospital Bag Checklist for Baby, Mom, and Dad: Must-Haves for the Hospital | South Florida Motherhood Photographer

Today, I wanted to share a hospital bag checklist for baby, mom, and dad. While the hospital will provide you with some of the necessary items, here are some items that I recommend bringing to make you feel more comfortable. Plus, you’ll want some cute outfits for baby so that you get some photos while you’re there!

Hospital Bag Checklist for Baby

  • Onesies for baby - I recommend bringing a couple of different sizes of onesies based on how baby is measuring to make sure you have the right fit!

  • Camera - While it’s nice using your phone to take quick pictures, nothing beats the higher quality of pictures taken by a camera. And be sure to book your newborn session for two to three weeks after baby arrives!

  • Swaddle - Make it easy on your sleep-deprived self and bring a few swaddles!

  • Hat/mittens - You want to keep baby’s head warm, so bring a cute hat! Babies also usually have sharp nails when they’re born, so having mittens will help protect their little faces from scratches.

  • Going home outfit - You’ll want a cute and comfy outfit to bring baby home in, so make sure you pack that!

  • Car seat - One of the most important parts of the hospital bag checklist for baby is the car seat!

Checklist for Mom

  • Pajamas - Once you’ve got everything checked off the hospital bag checklist for baby, then it’s time to focus on yourself! I always like to change into comfy pajamas after delivery so you’re as cozy as possible.

  • Slippers/socks - I like to have a pair of slippers or socks to wear around the room to keep my feet warm.

  • Robe - Some hospital rooms can be a bit chilly, so it’s always nice to bring a robe to keep you warm during your stay. Some of my favorite stores with cute maternity and postpartum clothes for mom are Storq, Bumpsuit, and Hatch.

  • Nursing bra - If you plan on nursing, I recommend packing a nursing bra.

  • Toiletries/beauty products - Hair brush, hair ties/clip, shampoo and conditioner, blow dryer, body wash, face wash, etc. Basically, whatever you need to feel good after delivery!

  • Clothes - I’ve been loving the Beyond Yoga maternity clothes!

Checklist for Dad

  • Snacks - It can be hard to find snacks in a hospital depending on your taste and the hours of the cafeteria, so I like to bring a few snacks for both dad and mom to enjoy.

  • Extra clothes - Dads might need to bring extra clothes since you won’t know how long your stay is.

  • Blanket and pillow - To make sure dad is as comfy as possible on the couch/bed.

These are some of the must-haves that I recommend having on your hospital bag checklist for baby, mom, and dad! Click here to see the full checklist. If you’re expecting soon, I would love to hear what’s on your must-have list. I would also love to chat with you about scheduling a maternity or newborn session to capture this special time in your life!
