Waiting on Isabella, Maternity Session

While I often tell clients to choose a meaningful location for their family, engagement or maternity session (if outdoors), sometimes we want to mix it up! While you can absolutely pick a sentimental spot, if there is a location that you love to look at, chances are it’s going to be a great spot for your portrait session too!

A skilled photographer can capture a beautiful image just about anywhere, but pretty scenery is still encouraged. When scouting for a session, I keep an eye out for gardens, beaches, museums and parks that offer landscape variety. Bonus if we can find somewhere that isn’t too crowded!

Some of my favorite Garden spots in South Florida for maternity sessions:

Morikami Garden: (Palm Beach County)

“The 16 acres that surround Morikami’s two museum buildings include expansive Japanese gardens with strolling paths, resting areas, our world-class bonsai collection and lakes teeming with koi and other wildlife. The wider 200-acre park features nature trails, pine forests and picnic areas.”

Fairchild Garden: (Coral Gables)

This massive botanical garden has SO many gorgeous garden exhibits, as well as an exotic butterfly exhibit and even offers “after hours” admission once per month (Sunset session, anyone?!) It is dog friendly too!

Ancient Spanish Monastery: (North Miami)

“Hidden in modern North Miami Beach, the Ancient Spanish Monastery takes us back. An enclave of European architecture and history, this Florida Heritage site—which was originally built in Sacramenia, a municipality of Segovia in northern Spain—has endured a long and interesting history to become the South Florida monument we know and love today.”

Constitution Park & Arboretum: (Deerfield Beach)

“Constitution Park & Arboretum includes a community center with a game room and recreation room with an adjoining full kitchen. This park features a playground, two tennis courts, and an outdoor basketball court. The Arboretum, our "Tree Zoo," is approximately nine acres of land containing over 200 exotic trees from five continents around the world. These trees are displayed along a half-mile walking path, fully accessible by wheelchair. The types of trees included in the tree zoo are Flowering Tropical Fruit, Exotics, Palms, Wetlands, Bamboo, Natives, and the Butterfly Garden.”

More session location ideas coming soon! All of these places are perfect for maternity sessions. If you have a location in mind, I would love to hear about it!
