Capturing your family through photographs is an important part of your history.  When you book a session, I want to make sure that you enjoy your experience and get beautiful images that you’ll cherish forever.  As a West Palm Beach family photographer, here are some things to consider before the shoot to make the most of your session.

Time of the Session

Consider the time of day when booking your session.  Try to book a time when everyone is well rested and in a good mood.  You’ll also have to consider the lighting when deciding on a time.  To maximize your time, sunrise and sunset are the most desirable lighting times.  We can also make daytime work as long as we’re shooting film and the sun is not directly overhead.  During the day, we won’t be able to shoot on the beach unless there are large dunes or palm trees providing shade, but we have to be careful of spotty light. As a West Palm Beach family photographer, I can help you choose the best beach and time of day for your session.

Unexpected Weather (A Common Challenge for a West Palm Beach Family Photographer!)

One of the challenges of outdoor sessions is that we can’t control the weather.  We’re going to embrace those things as part of the session - except for rain, of course!  If the tides change while we’re on the beach, we’ll move higher on the sand.  If it’s a little breezy, we’ll change locations based on the direction of the wind or find a wind block to shoot behind.

Dress Accordingly

To make sure you’re comfortable and can make the most of your session, it’s important to dress accordingly.  If it’s going to be warm, consider dressing in lighter, breezier fabrics.  If you’re going to be out in the sun, wearing sunscreen is fine.  As a West Palm Beach family photographer, I want you to stay safe in the sun! However, sunscreen is not good with a flash because it will leave you white, so avoid sunscreen if your session is in an area that’s not well lit.

These are just a few tips on how to make the most of your session. If you’re interested in working together to capture your family’s special moments, contact me.
