The Importance of Print
It’s hard to imagine a life without pictures.
As a family photographer, I know firsthand the importance of prints and the meaning they hold for our families. Looking back on past generations, we reach for photographs to try to fill in the gaps in memories. A photograph makes the intangible moments feel tangible. The way a box or album of photographs can bring it all rushing back is powerful. It is undeniable the wonder and magic of reaching back in time through images. Life stands still for only a moment, and that moment is a photo.
There is a multitude of ways we can use printed images, but for today, let’s talk about my top three recommendations.
Albums
I’m obsessed with any kind of album, but a gorgeous custom-designed photo album makes my heart skip a beat. Something that is gorgeous enough to sit on a coffee table and represents a time in your family’s history? That sounds pretty great to me!
Think about it like this: When your baby’s fingers and toes aren’t covered with sticky substances, and instead hard at work playing a sport or crafting something that doesn’t require paint, a tangible reminder that you can flip through is going to help you remember all the milestones that came before. They may not seem monumental right now, but 10-20 years from now, without a photograph, you may not remember all the little nuances that made up your days. Celebrate your milestones. Send a card to friends and family to indicate major life moments or to send thanks and well wishes. Create a postcard or greeting card with your images. I love seeing maternity photos used for baby showers, and sweet baby faces for birthdays. Family sessions are great for the holiday cards and a bonus — they are time stamped with the year! In this fast-paced world, let’s get back to slowing down with a little snail mail!
