Tips for Styling Your Photo Session
Hey all!
As you know, I offer a service of wardrobe consultation and access to my Motherhood Wardrobe through your session fee. However, some families enjoy the styling aspect but need a little direction, so I am here today with some tips to make your session a success through your wardrobe.
1. Start with a color palette - this includes location, skin tones, seasons, and number of persons. Try to keep colors to a maximum of 4 colors, but 3 is usually the magic number for me.
Check out the color wheel and seek out complimentary colors to help you.
2. Neutrals are king! Choosing seasonal neutrals and complimentary colors will help you pop against your location
3. Coordinate & Compliment over Matching
4. Consider your location! You want to reflect the scene you are in. For example you wouldn’t wear hot pink in the woods, but you might in a tropical location.
5. Be true to you, but refine it. You want your images to be timeless so don’t be afraid to dress it up!
With that being said, don’t be too trendy.
6. Choose texture and quality over small patterns and prints.
7. Jewelry and accessories should enhance not distract from the image or the moment.
8. Don’t underestimate the power of good undergarments. They bring everything in, help give shape, and lift!!
9. Layering! Layering! Layering! This is great for outdoor photos but also indoor. By layering you can keep warm(or cool), change your look while looking cohesive, use the layers as props!
10. Last but not least, Don’t forget about your shoes. They somehow always end up an after thought but really can make or break an outfit. Again, consider your location when choosing your footwear.
I hope these tips help you with your next session. If you are a client and you have a scheduled session, please reach out to me directly and I am more than happy to do the planning for you!!
