What to Expect - Your Session with NKB Photo

So, you’re curious about what to expect when we work together. I get it! I get this question often, so I thought a blog post that outlines each of the steps of the experience would be helpful. Below is a quick list of the stages of the process from your initial contact to post-session wrap-up. I’ll also explain each stage of the process in more depth below.

There are thirteen stages of our interaction. I know that seems like a lot, but bear with me, most of that work isn’t on you! But I want you to feel clear going into our session that this is more than just an hour of time that we spend together. You and your family are important to me and I want to be sure you’re well cared for.

TL;DR
Okay, so now let’s get into the timing for each of these and explain in more detail what you can expect in general.

When I receive your initial inquiry, we’ll probably have an additional discussion via email or phone. During this time, I can get a better understanding of your goals for the session, who will be there, where you are considering having the session, etc. It’s really just an opportunity for me to get to know you and possibly answer any questions. I want to make sure we’re a good fit for each other and you feel comfortable. This is the consultation phase and will be followed within 1-2 business days with a proposal.

When you say YES, I’m ready to move forward, you can expect a series of emails- a contract and nonrefundable deposit request(___%) which is then quickly followed by setting our date, time and location.

In addition, I will also send a questionnaire. This includes questions about who will be in attendance and if there are any specific grouping or ideas you want us to pursue. It also helps me get to know you better!

This pre-planning stage should only take a day or two and helps us move into the really fun part- vision planning!

Most family sessions are booked 6-8 weeks out, so during the vision planning time, we’ll discuss makeup timing (usually 1 hour prior)and wardrobe selections, so that you’ll have time to coordinate everything. I will either create a custom Pinterest board for you with wardrobe recommendations OR, in the event that you have booked a maternity or newborn session, I’ll take care of booking your make-up and will provide a wardrobe in the studio. You’ll also provide me with images of your home where you think you might want to see you images hung! If you’re thinking of an album, you may want to include multiple sessions, or a single session.

Now, is the fun part. Your session! We’ll usually spend about an hour together at our pre-arranged destination. My photography style is naturally posed and candid moments, which means that you can just settle in and be yourselves. During the shoot I will give you little queues to prompt these natural poses. As mentioned above, the attire you choose and the time of the shoot all contribute to the overall effect of the image. If you are seeking. light and airy feel, a sunset or sunrise session with neutral tones would be my suggestion to you. But let’s chat and make it work for your family! You can read more about making the most of your session here.

After our session wraps up, you can relax while I spend time editing. I do my best time turn around images within a week or two, but I do ask that you allow up to 30 days. It WILL be worth the wait! Once editing is done, I’ll let you know that it’s time to schedule an appointment to view your photos. This reveal session is so much fun for everyone! Sometimes I think it’s even more exciting than the session. During this time, I’ll also help you decide which photos to print, frame, or create an album from. From there, you’ll receive your heirloom items and enjoy your everlasting family art!

Whether you’re looking to book a maternity, newborn or family session, I do my best to make the process easy and effortless. Inquire about your portrait session here!
