Why Maternity Photos Are Important

There are a lot of feelings that come with pregnancy. Whether it is planned, happens right away, or has taken years of effort, there is no denying that seeing those pink lines on a pregnancy test is exciting, overwhelming, anxiety-inducing and above all else, joy-filled. During the early stages, you let your mind wander. You may also immediately begin to worry. You want to plan and prepare, but you also want to make sure that everything is “OK” before you fill in your family and friends. This whirlwind rollercoaster ride is intense and magical. I say all this because as our body begins to adjust to our new normal, we may begin to feel uncomfortable in our skin. it’s not just a growing belly, but an entire system overhaul!

If you’ve struggled with infertility, this time may feel especially overwhelming, as you think “is this real?” “Can I celebrate this moment?” Or, “I’m just holding my breath.” Honestly, you will be on a rollercoaster much of the journey. But Mama, this is beyond special. It’s sacred. And if you’re like me, without warning, it could be the last time you are able to carry a child. That’s why maternity photos are important. This journey is meant to be documented.

Why Maternity Photos Are Important

Despite the immense change (hey, growing a human isn’t easy, even in an ‘easy pregnancy’), pregnancy is a gift. Documenting this fleeting time in your life is SO important. Years from now, you will forget about the stretch marks, the swollen ankles, the inability to reach your toes as your swollen belly begins to knock your balance off-kilter (thank goodness)… but a maternity session will let you look back and remember all of the wonderful thing about growing a human inside of your womb! Not all humans are gifted with this ability to carry another human — not your father or your brother, heck maybe not even your best friend. What starts as little flutters of hope, bloom into big movements. What is only a mustard seed becomes a watermelon. Then a human… it’s a true miracle!

Even if you don’t ever feel the “pregnancy glow,” I want you to SEE it. That’s why maternity photos are important. It may not be now, tomorrow or in a few months. But as the time passes, you will look back and remember what a gift it was to be able to grow someone so incredible from your flesh. They say that ‘to be a mother is to watch your heart walk around outside of your body’ - unconditional and momentous; I couldn’t agree more!
